Day 1:
To explore the Best of Tambopata Sandoval Lake and clay lick chuncho, We will start at 9:30 am from our Hostel or we can pass to pick you up from your hotel, we will have 2 hour by car , the first part will be by the high way and the second part will be in a dirt route until we get to the Tambopata River near the limit to the reserve. Our boat will be waiting for us to take us 25 minutes up the Tambopata river to get to our Lodge, we will have good chances to spot capybaras and many shore birds along the river bank, getting to the lodge the best of tambopata , we will get a welcome drink and the manager will explain us all we need to know about our lodge and its around.
After lunch we will go for an introductory walk, first in a secondary grow forest and then in a primary forest full of huge trees and lianas and vines, at the same time we will talk about the most important economic activities in this region. Chances to spot some Brown capuchin monkeys and squirrel monkeys will be always possible. At the end of the walk we will climb up the tallest Canopy tower at Tambopata, A great Place to see the Amazon basin, Sunset is GREAT from here.
When is getting dark we will come back to our lodge”collpas tambopata inn” to get our torch and go to our boat and we will do one of the most exiting activities… it will be the Cayman spotting, we will go to look for White and black Caymans along the river bank with a big spot light, we might see more capybaras and we always have good chances to spot and ocelot or a jaguar by the river too.
Day 2:
We will wake up around 5:00am, we will get a hot drink to get some energy and we will take our boat up the Tambopata river for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Crossing the check point. We will have all the sunrise just for us in the boat, and we will have really good chances to spot shore birds, capybaras, White caimans, and why not to mention … A jaguar, I like to say it, we have a 20 %of probabilities to see one of these guys by the river bank.
The Best of Tambopata will show us Chuncho clay lick, parrots and macaws Green, red, blue and yellow birds all around us, flying and making loud noises, it will be spectacular this behavior of this birds. We will explain you the reason why every day the whole year around this birds o to the Cliff to eat clay. We will spend from 6:30 am to 11:00 am approx. Our breakfast will be in front of the clay lick activity.
At the end of this activity, We will continue our trip up the Tambopata River for 2 more hours, the river, and the landscape with the mountains is really nice, we will get to Tambopata Research Center, we will walk around the Research Station looking for wild pigs, monkeys, aybe a snake or a tapir at night.
Day 3:
To see more the Best of Tambopata Sandoval Lake and clay lick. We will wake up early in the morning and take 10 minutes boat ride to observe the Largest macaw clay lick activity, it will be probably different than Chuncho because the number of species of birds is much more here than anywhere else, in a good morning we can count 13 different birds eating clay at the same time, the best of Tambopata
We will get our breakfast in our camping site an then go for another walk in a different trail and at the end we will get information about the macaws and parrots in the research station.
After breakfast we will go for another walk in a different trail looking always for more wildlife and things to discover in a real virgin forest, it will probably take us around 3 hours walking and at the end we will stop at the research station to know more about the volunteers who work in this project since 1989. Around noon we will take our boat and get our lunch in the way back to our lodge.
At night, if you want we can make fire and talk about the local stories from local people at Tambopata.
Day 4:
We will wake up with the sounds of the birds and probably howler monkeys, will get our breakfast and then we will go 20 minutes down the river and then our 2 hours back to Puerto Maldonado and then pick up our typical box lunch and we will eat in the boat in the way to Sandoval lake ,the best of Tambopata, it is one hour by boat along the Madre de Dios River and then one hour walking to get to this lagoon that 100 of years ago was part of the main channel of the river, now isolated deep in the jungle. We will go toward the home stay to leave our bags and then to continue to the observation tower, monkeys, birds, turtles and black Caymans is very easy to spot here.
Day 5:
Before breakfast, we will go to observe and try to get good pictures about the Giant river otters in Sandoval Lake, they are the most endangered mammal in the rain forest, the population of them is not many, and they have a very interesting behavior.
After breakfast with the local families we will cross the lake and go for our last walk in another primary forest, many lianas, and palms trees, we will still have many things to talk and respond your questions.
We can swim in the lake and we will get our lunch and will take our canoe first, then walk and then the main boat in the Madre de Dios River to go back to Puerto Maldonado.
